From F-Bombs to Professionalism: The Problem with Cussing in the Workplace

Observations of July 25, 2024 by Tara Phillips

Cussing is too blatantly commonplace in today's society. Despite the strict corporate policies, cussing at the workplace is not enforced as a wrongdoing.

In my Casino work, I’ve come in contact with manager’s, leads and entry-level staff F- bombing and not a 'shot show' but a 'shit show' for how the work day was and with no hesitation or a common polite 'I’m sorry. That’s not appropriate.'

People routinely accustom to the version of language, daily conversation verbiage does not know the cause and effect of the meaning behind their words

And the attitude body language and influence hung over the person spoken to. No matter where they are not finding fault in any action that is deemed inappropriate by some societies and workplaces. No shame, nor guilt. No forethought to the people hearing it. Nor the influence of children. It is infuriating I cannot wear colorful headbands to elevate my appearance and I’m told not to, but the F this and F that employees don’t get a fierce conversation about enforced decorum.

I certainly recognize the two issues are not equal. Sure my headbands are not important overall. There is a certain appearance standard. I also don't have any grievances towards my people, department or ccorporation. And thus the comparison is not equal but the only thing I have to compare.
Not because they can easily read this post, but because I genuinely adore where I work.
